Fawcett Street, Sunderland, c. 1908 (reduced in size)
Although originals of these old photographs of Sunderland views are difficult to find, you can now get them on a cd-rom prepared from original items held in a private collection.
The cd-rom isn't mass produced but is compiled individually for each purchaser so there are very few copies in existence. You can get one of them here.
These 33 views in and around Victorian and Edwardian Sunderland are taken from two separate collections of early photographs of the area. One of the collections is dated 1908; the photographs in the other collection appear to pre-date this by some years, possibly as early as the late 1890s, although we have dated them in the index below as being about 1900.
A few sample images, greatly reduced in size, are set out below, followed by a complete list of all the views.

River Wear from Bridge c. 1908 (reduced in size)

Upper Promenade, Roker, c. 1908 (reduced in size)

Sunderland Infirmary c. 1900 (reduced in size)
These rare views show you how much Sunderland and Roker have changed in the last hundred years. Compare these views with what you can see today ...
