Put a rather special part of Scotland's history on your computer

The City of Edinburgh: The Castle from the Grassmarket, 1890 (reduced in size)

Although originals of these Victorian coloured views around Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Clyde are difficult to find, you can now get them on a cd-rom prepared from original items held in a private collection.

The cd-rom isn't mass produced but is compiled individually and personally for each purchaser so there are very few copies in  existence. You can get one of them here.

These 60 chromo-lithograph views were published in 1890.  They show you how much the area has changed in the last hundred years.  Compare these views with what you can see today.

A few sample images, greatly reduced in size, are set out below, followed by a complete list of all the views.

Edinburgh and its Environs: Edinburgh from the Firth of Forth, 1890 (reduced in size)

The City of Glasgow: The Broomielaw, looking East, 1890 (reduced in size)

The City of Glasgow: The Trongate, 1890 (reduced in size)

The Scenery of the Clyde: Rothesay, 1890 (reduced in size)
