Marshall Field & Co's retail store, State, Randolph and Washington Streets and Wabash Avenue (reduced in size)

Although originals of these old photographic views and illustrations of Chicago in the 1890s, you can now get them on a cd-rom prepared from original items held in a private collection.

The photographs were published as "Pictorial Chicago" in three editions between 1893 and 1901. Some of the photographs were heavily retouched or reworked for their original publication as explained by the introductory note to the "Pictorial Chicago" album : "The truthfulness of the camera is combined with the highest arts of the printer in portraying the massiveness and grandeur of the city's architecture, with its towering structures, the substantial and beautiful churches, its elegant private residences, its crowded thoroughfares ..."

The cd-rom isn't mass produced but is compiled individually and personally for each purchaser so there are very few copies in existence. You can get one of them here.

A few sample images, greatly reduced in size, are set out below, followed by a complete list of all the views.
