The Gebirgstruppe, Germany's Mountain Troops, and, in particular the Gebirgsjaeger (light Infantry mountain troops) were amongst the crack units of the German army forces.
Mountain infantry participated in many battles, including operations in Denmark, Norway, Finland, the Caucasus, the Gothic Line, the invasion of Crete and the battles in the Vosges region of France.
