** Information on 17 separate companies visited by Allied intelligence officers in August/September 1944 (shortly after Paris was liberated); details of work or business previously done for the enemy, equipment of interest, and manufacturing facilities.

CIOS 'Black List of targets for urgent investigation' category: Physical & optical instruments and devices

Duplicated typewritten report in English, 10 x 7.5 inches, 25 x 19 cms. 88 pages and a few tables.

Very good in original stapled card wrappers.

Collaboration with the Germans during the occupation; and treatment of Jewish businesses.

The full Parisian street address of each company is given and many French personnel who had been working at that site are named or interviewed.

Frenchmen were anxious to dissociate themselves from suspicion of undue German collaboration during the Vichy period. Several of those interviewed for the report stressed that they had hindered the Germans whenever possible.

Additionally, albeit to a lesser extent, the report also contains the occasional brief mention of the special treatment which had been afforded by the Germans during the occupation to businesses under Jewish ownership.

These human details sourced directly from precisely identifiable wartime Parisian locations and named individuals give the report particular historical significance and resonance.

The Wiener Library for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide holds an example of the CIOS companion work from the same period on Photographic Lenses and Optical Instruments [in the Paris area] but not this particular title.
