This work was issued in Berlin in 1942 by Abteilung fur Kriegskarten und Vermessungswesen (Department for War Maps and Surveying), and was intended Nur fur den Dienstgebrauch! (For official use only) by the Generalstab des Heeres (German General Staff).
In the early years of WW2, Algeria, along with Morocco, was controlled by the pro-Nazi Petain French regime. The Allies captured Algeria during the North African campaign that began in November of 1942 with landings near Oran and Algiers as part of Operation Torch.
